A quick reminder: tiny issues cause most ‘big’ problems

When hearing aids sound weak, muffled, or start to whistle, the cause is often simple: wax in the receiver, a clogged filter, moisture, or a loose fit.

A small routine prevents many frustrating ‘I think it’s broken’ moments.

Daily checklist (2 minutes)

  • Wipe the devices with a dry, soft cloth.
  • Check for earwax on domes/molds.
  • If you use disposable batteries: open the battery door at night (if recommended for your model).
  • If you use rechargeable: place them in the charger and confirm charging starts.
  • Store away from heat, humidity, and pets.

Weekly checklist

  • Replace or clean wax guards/filters as directed for your model.
  • Inspect microphone ports for debris (don’t poke inside — use a brush if provided).
  • Check tubing (if you have BTE with tubing) for moisture or stiffness.
  • Do a ‘listening check’: does one side sound weaker than the other?

Monthly checklist

  • Review your supplies: domes, wax guards, cleaning tool, batteries (if applicable).
  • Clean and check accessories (TV streamer, remote mic) if you use them.
  • If your hearing aids connect to a phone: confirm the app is updated and connections are stable.

If sound suddenly seems ‘blocked’

  • Check wax guard / filter first.
  • Check the dome or mold opening for wax.
  • Confirm the device is charged / battery is fresh.
  • If the issue repeats, book a quick service visit — it’s often a fast fix.
